Random Post 2
My random post for today is about why Korea is an amazing travel destination. I recently went last winter break so I have a fresh recollection and experience in the country. Also, I am very excited to be going again this summer break with my family. What stuck out to me the most about Korea was the cost of living. I have lived in or near LA my entire life which unfortunately has some of the highest living costs in the world. In LA, it seems like just breathing costs money. If I go out to lunch and order a burger, fries, and a drink it wouldn't surprise me for the bill to be $25 plus tip and tax. For the same $25 you can order almost anything at a majority of the country's nicest and most upscale restaurants. The minimum wage in Korea is about $8USD compared to almost $20 now in LA and similarly the cost of living I would estimate to be about the half of living in LA.
Additionally, there are so many things to do at all times. Even in a city as big as LA, it is hard to find anything to do or anything to eat after 12-2am. In Korea, the nightlife stays open all night and into the morning with clubs closing at 8am. Similarly, many food options, convenience stores, and other forms of entertainment operate until as late. Besides the nightlife, there are many amusement parks, cultural sites, themed cafes, sight seeing, shopping, plazas, malls, aquariums, and other places to explore and enjoy. Also it is very convenient to get around and everything is much closer in distance compared to LA and the size of Korea is only as big as CA.
Once in Korea, plane tickets to other Asian countries are very cheap. It personally took me about an hour by plane and $100 to go to Japan. Korea is also relatively much safer than LA which was a very nice change of pace. I feel like at least once a day I see a DPS notification about a student getting robbed or something crazy happening near campus. By no means is Korea perfect and there is danger everywhere but I did feel more at ease than in LA. Also, the technology is very advanced which makes life very convenient. So to wrap things up, if your thinking about where to travel, I would definitely recommend Korea.
Hey Joshua. I would love to one day travel to Korea and I hope that day is not too far in the future. I haven't had many Korean dishes but the ones I have tried I have loved. I can't wait to try more one day, hopefully in Korea, especially with such affordable prices!
ReplyDeleteHey Josh! I have to agree with you that traveling in Korea or just Asia in general is such a good experience. Even when I'm alone at night, I'm not too worried for my safety. The food in Asia is also just better and cheaper. I did an Asia trip over winter break and I can't wait to revisit those countries.
ReplyDeleteHey Joshua. I've never been to Korea but it sounds like a fun spot. Definitely would be a cool trip to experience one time.
