Book 2 Post #2

Another great lesson from the book Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki is that people should work to learn and not work for money. This was a new perspective for me as growing up, my parents always emphasized the importance of college and getting a safe and well paying job. My parents always stressed job security; however, Kiyosaki emphasizes that working purely for a paycheck can hold many people back. When a person is focused on a paycheck, this miss out on other opportunities that may pay less in the short term but can bring in more money in the long run. This is something I also plan on doing - taking more risks and developing skills that will pay off in the long run. Adding on to the theme of taking on risk, Kiyosaki highlights the difference in how successful and non successful people manage fear. Losing money when investing is inevitable, and this fear blocks many people from investing. Kiyosaki states that rich and successful people always overcome this fear of losing mon...

Book 1 Post #2

One of my main takeaways from Shoe Dog, by Phil Knight, is the importance of teamwork and trust. This is especially important in business; however, this also applies to all other relationships whether it may be friends, co-workers, classmates, etc. Like every entrepreneur ever, Knight and his team faced many difficult challenges - most notably when they lost their main supplier from overseas. Throughout the many hardships, Knight was able to prevail due to the intense camaraderie that he and his team possessed. They shared the same mentality - us against the world. This is a lesson that I want to apply to my life in order to be more successful when working with others - in life and in business.  In business, it is not always about who has the best product. There are many companies in the world that create amazing products, but many of these companies never got off the ground or never became successful. Us as consumers oftentimes don't choose the best option but the option tha...

My friends and I always debate who is the Greatest Of All Time (GOAT) of basketball. There is a strong consensus that there are only 2 possible choices. But, when it comes down to which choice is correct, there is always heated debate and disagreement. I strongly believe that Lebron James is easily and by far the best player to ever touch a basketball; however, my close friend and roommate, Leo, just as strongly believes that Michael Jordan is the GOAT. So, let me explain my reasoning behind why Lebron is clearly the GOAT. Lebron is now the all time leading scorer in the history of basketball with over 40,000 points. Not only is he #1 in scoring he is among the top 10 in every other category: rebounds, assists, steals, 3 pointers, games played. In addition to his astonishing stats, he also has 4 regular season MVPs, 4 championship wins, and 4 finals MVPs. His basketball IQ and feel for the game is also rated the highest by his teammates, opponents, and coaches. Off the court, he known ...

World We Imagine p3

The organization I am pitching today is dedicated to sustainable sourcing. Currently, many large corporations are purchasing from suppliers that do not take into account social and environmental factors but solely focus on the bottom line. However, the current trend is shifting to where many companies and consumers care about ethical and sustainable practices through the entire supply chain. Our goal is connect companies with suppliers that produce ethically and in an ecological conservative manner.  This organization aims to provide value on both ends. Many large corporations have goals to source sustainably; however, this comes at a higher cost and is much harder to implement. We would help these corporations by connecting them to a network of vendors that supply products in their specific industry that do so sustainably and at a reasonable price. On the other hand, there are many suppliers that practice sustai...

World We Imagine P1

Today we are redefining the geography of community and accepting shared accountability for common human values. We have the chance to extend the notion that all men are created equal to every human being on the planet. This will require global structures and products we are only beginning to imagine.... Each of us in his or her own way can contribute something by thinking -- and acting -- like a true global citizen. We have only one world for all of us on earth, and the future really is ours to create, in a world we dare to imagine together. Thinking and acting like a global citizen requires a scale of thought that I am not very used to. When I think about the communities that I belong in, I usually think of myself as apart of USC, SoCal, and an American. Digital technologies have made communication easier than ever and have brought people together all across the globe; however, often times it is easy for many people to dismiss global issues and problems as matters that are dista...

Random Post 2

My random post for today is about why Korea is an amazing travel destination. I recently went last winter break so I have a fresh recollection and experience in the country. Also, I am very excited to be going again this summer break with my family. What stuck out to me the most about Korea was the cost of living. I have lived in or near LA my entire life which unfortunately has some of the highest living costs in the world. In LA, it seems like just breathing costs money. If I go out to lunch and order a burger, fries, and a drink it wouldn't surprise me for the bill to be $25 plus tip and tax. For the same $25 you can order almost anything at a majority of the country's nicest and most upscale restaurants. The minimum wage in Korea is about $8USD compared to almost $20 now in LA and similarly the cost of living I would estimate to be about the half of living in LA. Additionally, there are so many things to do at all times. Even in a city as big as LA, it is hard to find anyt...

The bottom line usually refers to net income on a company's income statement - how much profit a company generates. The term Triple Bottom Line refers to the fact that firms should focus equally on profits, social responsibility, and the environment. This is often referred to as the "3 Ps" - profits, people, & planet. Corporate Social Responsibility is the idea that corporations should take on economic, legal, ethical, and philanthropic responsibilities. Corporations should be mindful of their duties to itself, stakeholders, and the public. A Social Enterprise is a company that aims to maximize social benefits alongside corporate profits. They usually have specific social issues/challenges that they aim to tackle. Carbon Footprint is the amount of greenhouse gases produced by an action or entity. It is usually measured in tons and the it is important to decrease these harmful green house gas emissions as they cause global warming and climate change. Aesop was establis...
